Sunscreen: We all know the importance of wearing it every single day, not just in the week-long British summer heatwaves (A month or two, if we're lucky, right).

Yet how many of us actually slap SPF on our faces daily- or our legs in the shorts weather? Guilty! Even working in the fashion and beauty industry, we all miss a day now and then. It happens! However, some of us aren't as fortunate to have the opportunity even to forget, as they are left to choose between purchasing clothes, products, or food. A choice no family should have to face.

So this summer, Escentual has joined forces with Clarins, Shiseido, and countless beauty experts to end sun poverty, and we are here for it.

Skincare Expert Caroline Hirons and Digitial Creator Ruth Crilly are two among the many experts supporting the initiative, along with beloved beauty Youtuber and makeup artist Wayne Goss. The non-profit initiative by Escentual is donating 30,000 high-protection sunscreens to lower-income families across the UK. With the cost of living continuously rising, families need help now more than ever, with one in seven adults currently skipping meals to save money.

But why is sun protection so important? Well, because it's nothing short of a necessity. With skin cancer the current fastest-growing cancer in the UK, research shows that just one blistering sunburn in childhood can, in fact, more than double the chances of developing melanoma later in life.

The #SunPoverty initiative is about getting sunscreen to those who need it the most while educating everyone on sun safety. Escentual will donate one sunscreen for every Escentual Sunscreen SPF50+ and any Clarins or Shiseido sun care sold on their website directly to schools or via charity partners InKind Direct and Beauty Banks.
