One hair trend is quietly rising up the ranks on TikTok, which figures given the name of this chop: the hush cut. It's another stunning K-beauty export and picks up where the shag left off in terms of shaping layers. Only this time, they're a lot less loud and shouty, with softer, subtler graduation vs short, choppy fronds.
Videos posted to TikTok have been busy sharing inspo and cultivating a fan following, because not only is the cut pretty, but it's wearable, too. So we asked the hair pros to fill us in on everything we need to know about this incoming cut.

What is a hush cut?
“The hush cut originated from Korea and is a low-maintenance light, feathered haircut," explains Neil Moodie, Pureology UKI Ambassador. Essentially, “it's soft and layered with a fine, wispy fringe or shorter face framing layers around the face,” he adds. Adam Reed, pro hairstylist and founder of Arkive haircare, concurs. “it’s a really soft wispy, feathery haircut. It’s a much softer take of the shag but it’s within that family,” he says.
It's supposed to create a light and airy feel. "You’ll find the ends are lighter, textured and airy so you don’t get any harsh, blunt cut lines," Neil explains. “A lot of the weight is removed so there's no strong line,” says Adam.
What’s the difference between a hush cut and a wolf cut?
"The hush cut is much lighter in look compared to a wolf cut, with the wolf having shorter layers throughout," says Neil. “It's softer,” agrees Adam. “The wolf cut is more of a strong, structured haircut, whereas the hush cut is wispier with lots of invisible layers – but nothing is too obvious, which nods to the name,” he says.
What are the benefits of getting a hush cut?
Nineties babies may be wary of heavy layers, but with this cut, there's no need as it won't punish you in terms of styling and regrowth. “The hush cut is really easy to maintain, it's one of those cuts you can do on pretty much any hair type and you’re going to get a really nice, soft shape,” says Adam. “The idea is it's low maintenance and requires little styling so you can pretty much air dry the haircut,” agrees Neil. "You can use a bit of product to define the shape but the cut does most of what you need to do yourself," insists Adam.
Does a hush cut work on all hair types?
"You can make it work on all hair types because the structure of the haircut is so soft. The idea is soft, wispy and feathery – the best way to describe it is angelic," says Adam. But as with all cuts, it's best to tweak the details so they work for you. “Anyone with slightly longer hair would have longer layers throughout for added movement,” says Neil.
How to style a hush cut?
“To style, I’d add a light volume product such as the Pureology Lightweight Volume Mousse and air dry it into the hair combined with a texture spray for added movement,” says Neil. Other than that, experiment and find what works best for you.
