These SPF makeup products make everyday sun protection super easy

We all know that it's important to wear sun protection every day, come rain or shine. While you may not burn on a cooler day, the sun's UVA rays can still cause cellular damage that increases the risk of ageing and skin cancer. And yet, many of us still skip the sun cream.

We get it - time is of the essence, especially in the mornings, and the idea of incorporating yet another step to an already laborious skincare and makeup regime seems unfeasible. Luckily, many of our favourite makeup formulas also provide sun protection, therefore killing two birds with one stone.

And even though these products are super effective, let us remind you that for a healthy and youthful complexion, you can't just ditch the sunscreen altogether during summer - no matter how much makeup you put on.

When choosing your protection, remember beauties - SPF only refers to the level of protection against UVB rays (the kind which cause sun burn). UVA rays cause cancer and ageing, so it's really important to look for a sun cream that protects from both. According to Jean-Christophe Samyn, managing director of Caudalie UK, you need to look for the letters “UVA” on the packaging, which sometimes has a circle around it. “If it has a circle around it, it means that it meets the European standards of protection against cancer,” he explains.

As for SPF, no matter the factor you'll need to reapply regularly. "SPF refers to physical filters, which are designed to provide a barrier on the skin surface. This means that they will ultimately be wiped and washed away or be sweated off within a few hours,” says skincare biochemist Nausheen Qureshi. “This means that no matter what the factor, you’ll still need to reapply every few hours.”
